Toussaint Louverture Event

The Consulate General of Haiti in Atlanta hosted this Saturday, April 5, 2014 an open house for children dedicated to the leader of the Haitian Revolution, Toussaint Louverture, on the occasion of the 211th anniversary of his death.

Special activities were organized to celebrate this cultural event. The children were invited to make crafts; the pedagogue, Ms. Furcy Francis, teacher of French at Salem Middle School in Lithonia Georgia, did a presentation; and young Haitian-American, Gregory Lafortune, represented the hero in a costume representative of the time.

Also as part of the commemoration, the Consulate in collaboration with the French Alliance of Atlanta hosted a movie showing of the film Toussaint Louverture played on screen by Haitian actor Jimmy Jean Louis.  The Atlanta community including Haitian and French immigrants participated in large numbers.
